M&E Progress


2-Day Area: Electrical installation completed as far as presently possible. Pipework testing commenced. MCC 21-3 energized. Dry commissioning commenced. Lightning protection completed and tested.


21-Day Area: Mech install commenced and ongoing. TK62300, 400 & 500 mixing installation within tanks completed. Lightning protection installation completed and tested.


Thickening Building: Mechanical installation drum thickeners 90% completed. Mechanical pipework installation 75% complete. Electrical installation commenced 10% complete.


Return Liquors and Cross Site Pipework: Return liquors and discharge line to head of works 40% complete. Process water from incinerator area 50% complete. Other process lines nearing design commencement. Odour ductwork 30% complete.


High Level Storm Tanks: Awaiting entry into tank 2 from YW to allow completion of works (85% complete). All other tanks mech internal 100% complete. Lifting beams outstanding.


Low Level Storm Tanks: Tanks 1 to 6 mech install complete, with exception to lifting beams. Tank 7 ongoing.


Tank No 1+2: Tank 2 mixer pipework within tank complete.

Construction Progress: March


2 Day Area: TK58100 crack injection complete. Re-filling for water test ongoing. Cross site odour duct bases complete.

21 Day Area: TK62400 concrete repairs completed by A Consult. All ring beams are concreted. MCC21-2 is excavated and constructed, base complete and awaiting kiosk. Odour control unit base commenced and ongoing. PC pump base excavate and construct.

Tanks 1&2: Tank No.2- Concrete repairs to the existing tank complete in accordance with PMI.

Construction Operations

21 Day Tank Area: Panels and roof for tank 4 have been erected as well as pouring for ring beam. 70% of access steelwork erected. Blinding and trench base poured for MCC. Excavation and underslab ducts for pump slab and odour control slab.

2 Day Tank Area: Electrical above ground feed pipework and pipework around pumps, odour control duct, valves in manholes installed.

Sludge Thickening Building: Finished internal blockwork laying and painting, continued erecting steelwork for drums and installing internal pipework to pumps etc. 70% installation of poly dosing kit. Installed MCC.

HL Storm Tanks: Finished installing mixing equipment in tank 4. Re-entering of tank 2 to install nozzles to take place.

LL Storm Tanks: Installed mixing in tanks 5 and 6. Sludge tank 2: Drained down and cleaned out. Structural repairs and laying of air-mixing pipework nearly complete.

General: Duct laying and draw-pits for LV and fibre optic almost complete from 2-day MCC to SS21 (and thickener building and incinerator for fibre optic).

February Update


Thickener Building
All exterior works have been completed including the cladding and the roof, bricklayers have finished erecting the inside walls with plant machinary (inc drum thickeners) installed to eventually thicken the sludge from HL. The interior walls have benefitted from a painting.

21 Day Area
In the 21 day area, tank 4 has been erected with the roof to be lifted and fitted today (28-02-08). The cross site ductworks are ongoing as is the odour control plinth construction.
Tank 2 has been cleaned out and the installation of the air mixing has begun.

High Level
At HL the survey work has started and there is continued installation of the mixing pipework.

2 Day Area
In the 2 day area, installation of the pump station pipework is ongoing and the installation of the odour control has started.

21 Day Area HV Cable and Roof Lift


21-day area: Laing O'Rourke have been laying a HV cable in a trench dug by B&V. Great coordination between contractors leading to power being supplied to B&V works when required.

The roof was lifted onto the 2nd tank on Sunday 10th Feb and concrete poured for stair bases and blower plinth. The ring beam has been grouted for one of the tanks.

Thickener Building - Alfa Laval have been erecting steelwork to support the drum thickeners, internal blockwork is nearly finished and external building erection is complete.

21 Day Area Valve Chamber and Trench


In the 21 day area, the erection of the tank is now complete with the valve chamber and trench for the HV cable underway.

Across Site Progress and 2 Day Area


The laying of the fibreoptic ducts has began across the site and up at High Level, the storm tank mixing in tank 3 is almost complete.

In the 2 Day Area there has been construction of a valve chamber as well as the pouring of the pump plinths.

Thickener Building Steelwork Erection


Pipework for the thickener building has been subject to water testing and steelwork is being erected.

2 Day Area and 21 Day Area Developments



2 Day Area (Pictured): Fixing for base slab for PC pumps and concrete has been poured as well as the drains to the back of the tanks. The water test has been passed for the first tank and the testing on the second tank begun.

21 Day Area: Excavations and base temporary works have been completed with first lift of PS rings and concrete surround finished.

Storm Tanks

Mixing in Low Level tank 3 has been installed with steelwork in High Level Storm Tank 3 erected with pipework due to begin.

21 Day Area Works




Kirks fitted the tank roof on the first tank prior to the site Christmas break, and currently the broken up concrete and ground in the pumping station area are being removed. The steel sheet piles for the pumping station temporary works has arrived.

2 Day Area Water Testing and Pipework




Water testing is ongoing and the MCC and MCC kiosk have been installed with IPPC plinth for above ground pipe work constructed to allow pipe work installation subcontract to progress. The engineering team are checking the ground level at the blinding concrete for the pump slab. Steel pipework erection is yet to proceed.

Thickener Building Construction


The building base pour was completed with all the main upstands poured to allow the building to be erected this week. The columns are currently being fixed into the concrete slab with more beams having arrived and erection beginning. A water test on the underslab pipework has started.
